Mapping External Controls to Articles

Learn how to associate external controls with articles.

Updated yesterday

Connecting the dots between your policies and the framework controls you follow.

One of PolicyCo’s handiest features is the ability to create strong links between your articles and specific controls. Think of it as a double-check system: mapping a control to an article confirms that your policy language is actually meeting your compliance goals.

It's also super flexible. You can map one control to multiple articles, or multiple controls to a single article. This is especially powerful since you can pull controls from various compliance frameworks all into one place.

> Quick Note on Terms: By default, we use the labels "Articles" and "Frameworks." If your industry prefers terms like "Requirements" and "Regulations," you can easily swap those labels in your Settings. For this guide, we'll stick to the default terms.

How to Map a Control

Ready to connect a framework control to a policy article? Here is how to do it:

  1. Click into the article you want to work on.

  2. Look for the Controls label to the right of the article content and click Add Controls.

  3. Search the list, find the control(s) you need, and check the box to select them.

  4. Click Close above the search box.

And you're done! The control is now mapped. It will appear collapsed by default to save space, but you can click it anytime to expand the details. Feel free to map as many controls as you need.

How to Unmap a Control

Need to remove a connection? It’s just as easy:

  • Go to the article containing the control you want to remove.

  • Find the control and hover your pointer over the control.

  • Click the X next to the control to Unmap Control.
